The walk through to St James’s Street is fairly uneventful on a Sunday. Along Queens Park Road, on to Carlton Hill, down Blaker Street and so on.
Still, if a person is singularly lost in their thoughts then much will go unnoticed. It does appear that residents of Blaker Street have gone out of their way to get a wistful wanderers attention though.
Years ago my parents had the front of the family home in Queens Park Road painted red. It was quite tasteful, and did much to bring a modern feel to the old brickwork. Generally, most older houses saw no paint in the pre-war era, it is still a fairly modern concept in local history.
Blaker Street seems to stand out. It’s as if there is a committee deciding on the different shades. I think I only saw one house that had refused to oblige. It’s certainly worth a look if you are down that way, especially on a sunny day.
